Me as Lizzie Siddal sketching at the Botanical Gardens in Sheffield.
I love to imagine Lizzie wandering around Sheffield and discovering its hidden beauties, as I do. I love to think I may have stepped somewhere she walked on too. In my head, she has long walks over the parks and thinks about his dad’s family and how her life would’ve been if they hadn’t moved. Maybe she thinks about Hope Hall too (where I must go one of these days as it’s pretty close to the city).
Cucamelons: They’re grape-sized watermelons that taste like cucumbers with a tinge of lime
They’re native to Mexico and Central America. They also go by the following names: mouse melon, Mexican sour gherkin, Mexican miniature watermelon and Mexican sour cucumber. [homegrown-revolution.co.uk]
You can buy the seeds here: $2.50 for 25-35 seeds. [rareseeds.com] Read more.

OMG NATURE PROVIDES 1:6 SCALE MINIATURES!!!!
When I saw the first photo, before scrolling down to the text, I was seriously like “Wait, they’re splicing grapes and watermelons now? SCIENCE YOU ARE DRUNK. Also, where can I get these?”
The fact that this is a naturally-occuring thing is even better. :-D
My small contribution to the documentation of the Chicagoland flooding…
The top photo is one I took on a walk a couple summers ago, of what I refer to as my “Ophelia spot” (for reasons that are obvious if you know my blog) in the creek a couple blocks from my house. (Which is, thankfully, sharply uphill and quite dry.) Note the rocks in the creek bed clearly visible under the few inches of clear water.
The bottom photo is approximately the same spot yesterday afternoon. I say “approximately” because (a) it’s taken from quite a bit further back, since the spot where I stood to take the top photo was under rather a lot of fast-moving water, and (b) my reference point, the fallen tree bridging the creek, is nowhere to be seen.
I’ve been meaning to do a Pre-Raphaelite photoshoot there for a while now, but haven’t gotten around to it. Really hope it comes back as pretty this summer. :-/
P.S. And now it’s snowing. GO HOME NATURE YOU ARE DRUNK.
